5 reasons for choosing Film School Zlin:
1. Intensive Practical Exercises
Every student at Film School Zlin participates in film, video and animation exercises. Some of these exercises are specific to the particular program and others require the cooperation of students from all three programs (Animation, Producing & Directing, Image & Sound). Rotation between all film crew positions helps students understand the workflow of a production team. Check out some of our best student work HERE.
2. School Funding for Selected Projects
Every second-year student at Film School Zlin has the opportunity to submit a proposal for a graduation film, video or multimedia project that may be entirely financed by the school. Between 1993 and 2005, 180 student projects were fully-funded by the school.
3. Teachers, Facilities, Overall atmosphere
As we only accept about 30 new students each year, Film School Zlin is a rather cozy place. Our atmosphere is welcoming and informal which allows for individual attention to be paid to each student. It also allows for students to get to know each other quite well and to develop strong working relationships. The management of the school monitors technological developments in the fields of film, video and animation and accordingly invests in the materials necessary to keep our students abreast of industry standards.
4. Support for International Students
Film School Zlin takes special care of its International Students. We understand that your decision to come to our school means that you are leaving your country, your native language and those people whom you hold dear. When you arrive in Zlin for the school year, our orientation program will help you find a place to live, assist you in becoming familiar with your new surroundings and make it easy for you stay connected to the life you left behind.
5. We are located at a Historic Film Studio
In 1936, the Bata Family built a film studio in Zlin to produce advertisements for their thriving, international shoe company. In the 1940s, a staff of over forty animators broadened the scope of projects created at the Zl?n Studios to include experimental animation. It was here, in 1942, that Hermina Tyrlova made the First Czech Puppet Film, Ferda the Ant. It was also in these studios, in 1954, where Karel Zemanmade the award-winning film Journey to the Beginning of Time. By the 1960s, Zlin became the Czechoslovakian hub of filmmaking for children and youth.
Every year, Zlin hosts the week-long International Film Festival for Children and Youth, At the same time, Film School Zlin hosts its own International Student Film Festival, Zlinsky Pes. During this time, all classes are suspended and students have the opportunity to work at the festival, attend animation & filmmaking workshops and meet filmmakers and producers from around the world.
